THE LOOK: GET GLOWING
Supermodel Miranda Kerr can do no wrong beauty-wise as far as I’m concerned. She always manages to wear makeup in a way that is minimal and fresh, letting her natural beauty shine through. To get glowing skin like Miranda I recommend using one of my all time favorite beauty products RMS Beauty Living Luminizer. Made from coconut oil that is organic and completely non-toxic, this luminizer gives skin a healthy, dewy glow, without the greasy or glittery look of some highlighters on the market. Apply the luminizer with your fingers on the cheek bones, brow bones, down the bridge of the nose, and at the bow of the lips to get your glow on.

BEAUTY BAG: EXFOLIKATE INTENSIVE EXFOLIATING TREATMENT
The heat and humidity from last week’s heat wave in NY left my skin feeling less than stellar. Adding an exfoliating treatment to your summer skincare routine is a great way to keep your pores unclogged and your complexion looking fresh and bright. I got my hands on a sample of Kate Somerville’s ExfoliKate Intensive Exfoliating Treatment and let me tell you it’s a game changer. It is like a facial in a jar. In just one use my pores were clear and my skin was visibly smoother and brighter. Unlike some exfoliating treatments that can dry out your skin this one left my skin glowing, hydrated, and irritation free. According to Kate Somerville’s website scrubbing Microbeads and Fruit Enzymes utilizing Papaya, Pumpkin, and Pineapple clean pores, while salicylic acid balances hydration without over-drying. Rosewood and cinnamon extracts are combined to reduce fine lines and wrinkles. The addition of aloe vera, honey, and vitamin E smooth and soften the skin. I’m definitely putting this treatment into rotation once a week ASAP!

Spring 2012 has a fresh update to the traditional smoky eye. Models at Emanuel Ungaro and Rodarte were given a van Gogh, Starry Night inspired, midnight-blue smoky eye. The deep midnight hue paired with soft, sheer lips and cheeks creates a cool, sophisticated look for night.

THE LOW DOWN: ECO-BEAUTY RETAILERS
It’s never too late to go green with your beauty routine! Earth Day is April 22nd and what better way to get involved than by replacing your toxic beauty products with eco-friendly options. It’s good for you and good for the planet. The beauty industry is largely unregulated and toxins found in products have been linked to numerous adverse effects on your health and skin. My favorite online eco-beauty retailer Spirit Beauty Lounge has a handy list of toxins to avoid on their website, and for a great read on the issue check out the book No More Dirty Looks. To help turn you into the queen of green here is a list of some of my favorite retailers to shop eco-beauty brands. Enjoy!

THE LOOK: PASTELS
It’s not just Easter eggs going pastel. This weekend has me thinking about all of the soft pinks, blues, and purples that are part of the the pastel makeup trend for Spring 2012. Emily Weiss from Into The Gloss created a super wearable interpretation of the trend using the lavender eye shadow from the Yves Saint Laurent Candy Palette. Keeping the rest of the makeup minimal and fresh, the sheer wash of lavender across the lids gives a soft pop of color.

BEAUTY BAG:
My beauty philosophy with makeup has always been less is more. I think it all starts with focusing on skin care and then using makeup as a way to subtly enhance yourself. Don’t get me wrong I’m the first one at the makeup counter trying out a bright eyeliner or rocking a red lip. However, I think the key when you’re playing with color is to focus on one feature and keep the rest of the look fresh, and clean. I think it keeps it looking modern, and you from looking like a …well you know.
For day I like to keep things pretty simple and classic and leave the experimenting for night. I’m always on the hunt for the next holy grail product so products are constantly rotating in and out of my makeup bag. Whenever possible I try and use non-toxic, clean makeup brands. If you can find a product from a natural brand that performs well and can avoid putting extra chemicals on your skin, I say why not! So here’s a look at my current roster of products in my beauty bag.
I start out using Sunday Riley Effortless Breathable Tinted Primer. It provides the perfect base for foundation or if it’s a good skin day I’ll just use this for a subtle wash of color to even things out. If I want more coverage I layer over the primer with Sunday Riley Creme Radiance Breathable Ageless Foundation. While it may look heavy in the jar it goes on light and gives your skin a glow with buildable coverage and some serious anti-aging benefits from probiotics, peptides, magnolia bark, and tonka bean. If I have any blemishes or discoloration I use AmazingCosmetics, AmazingConcealer, a tiny amount will cover anything with this highly pigmented formula. For my under eye area I use YSL Touche Eclat. There’s a reason this product has been on the top of every beauty list and a favorite of makeup artists for years. It’s a miracle worker! It will erase any under eye circles and make you look like you got your full 8 hours of sleep. It also works great as a highlighter to place on the top of your cheekbones and brow bone. If I want a hint of color on my cheeks, especially in the dead of winter I use Tarte’s Amazonian clay 12-hour blush in Blissful. It has serious staying power and gives cheeks a warm, peachy natural glow. In the summer I like to use Tarte’s Amazonian clay bronzer. This lightweight mineral bronzer gives skin a perfectly sunkissed look. I’ve recently become obsessed with the beauty brand rms. All of the products from this uber natural brand are to die for. My can’t live without product has to be the Living Luminizer. It illuminates skin giving a youthful glow without being glittery or greasy like so many other highlighters out there. I put this on the top of my cheekbones, brow bones, cupids bow, and in the corners of my eyes to get a fresh, yes I always look this radiant look. If I want to give my makeup a little staying power I dust a touch of MAKE UP FOR EVER’s translucent HD Microfinish Powder on my t-zone. For daytime I don’t usually wear eyeshadow and just use Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner to get the look of liquid liner to create a cat eye or get a defined line. If I want to go for a more subtle or smudgy look I use Lancome Le Crayon Khol eyeliner. I was blessed with extremely long eyelashes. I’ve had people ask if I have eyelash extensions when I’m not even wearing mascara. Don’t hate me, I have other beauty issues I swear! So I’ve never really had to try hard to find a good mascara. However I do like to use volumizing formulas and have to be careful of avoiding products that clump and create that dreaded spider lash look since mine are already lengthy. I start by curling my eyelashes with Shu Uemura eyelash curler and follow with Josie Maran’s GOGO Instant Natural Volume Argan Mascara which gives great thickness, never clumps, and is water resistant for smudge proof summer wear. For a night out if I want major lashes I reach for Dior’s Diorshow Mascara. Lately for lips I’ve been going between bright fuchsia pink and bold red. I love Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Cruella, a deep scarlet red. The pencil is a highly pigmented, long lasting,non-drying formula with a jumbo crayon design that makes application a snap. For those of you that love Clinique’s Almost Lipstick in Black Honey, rejoice because they have extended the product line with a stellar lineup of new colors. I’ve been using Flirty Honey, to get in on the bright pink lip trend. Since the formula gives a sheer, glossy finish it’s good for those that are a little intimidated to sport a bright pink lip and want to take it for a road test or just prefer a more a subtle look.
No one said looking naturally beautiful was easy, that’s for sure! I don’t like to spend a lot of time getting ready in the morning, and while it may seem like a lot of products it really only takes 10 minutes tops to get this fresh, natural look and out the door.
